Doug's Review of Vampire With The Dragon Tattoo

Title: The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo (Love at Stake)
Author: Kerrelyn Sparks
Author's Website: Kerrelyn Sparks Website
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Genre: Paranormal Romance with Thriller/Suspense
Length: approx 384 pgs
Buy Link: The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo

Dougal Kincaid has something to prove. After being injured in a battle with the Malcontents, he's ready for active duty protecting unsuspecting mortals from these villainous vampires who want to rule the world. But first he has to get control of himself . . . because just the sight of a certain lovely doctor has his injured hand doing some peculiar things, not to mention the sizzling sensation that burns along his dragon tattoo . . .

Vampires? Vampires?! As a scientist, Leah is having trouble believing that these immortal creatures exist. But there they are, standing in front of her, asking for help in solving a genetic puzzle that can save mankind. There's even one in a sexy kilt! Just one look into Dougal's gorgeous green eyes sets her pulse racing. But can she trust him—and the overwhelming desire that refuses to be ignored . . . ?

Doug's Review:

If you have read the Love At Stake series you already have an inkling as to what the story will be like to a certain extent.

Dougal is one of the few remaining early members of the group that has not found a mate and then along comes Leah who not only brings out the MINE effect in him but reminds him of a love he lost 300 years ago.

Leah is not only beautiful, she is wicked smart and that is why she is there to help with some genetic research that needs to be done to fight off their latest adversary (a demon no less).

This is an off/on romance that in some places is a bit frustrating but still entertaining and the urban fantasy part of the plot keeps it from being too dopey or sugary sweet,

The injection of angels into this series in a subtle way that does not feel copied in any way adds much to this story and I really enjoyed that part and wonder what she plans for the future in that area since we are running out of characters to find mates for in this series.

Bottom Line: I like it but I can only give it 4 Stars because it is written almost to a formula in the romantic plots (the overarching UF plots are still excellent) and while you never really tire of seeing the guy get the girl this series needs some intangible things added to get it to 5 Star level in my opinion. Am I going to keep buying these books, of course, they are part of my addiction and I love seeing the old characters which unlike many series don't disappear or become cardboard cutouts but this series needs a injection of something because the best books in the series were written much earlier in the series.

Anne's Review of A Rocky Road to Romance by Anna Kristell

Title:  A Rocky Road to Romance (Fab Five Series)

Author:  Anna Kristell

Publisher:  LazyDay

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

More Fab Five drama and this time it’s the O’Gradys facing turmoil at every turn. Chloe’s high-risk pregnancy has her homebound as she and Shane anxiously await the arrival of twins. Shane is busy between home and the office, so when Katy’s son, Alex, moves to Dallas, taking a job in the offices of O’Grady Enterprises, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Alex is attracted to the hostess at Chloe’s Place, Chelsea Wyatt. But Chelsea has a boyfriend…and a secret. When it becomes apparent to all around her she is in an abusive relationship, Alex is more determined than ever to convince her that he is the guy for her.

As Chelsea comes to the realization she is falling in love with Alex, he gives her a small glimpse of what life with him could be like. But a bombshell is dropped on Alex when he is told someone is stealing from the restaurant and Chelsea is one of the prime suspects. Determined to prove her innocence, Alex discovers just how devious Chelsea’s boyfriend, Dante, is. And when Chelsea learns the truth and attempts to break free of Dante’s hold on her, he viciously attacks her, leaving her for dead.

As Chelsea attempts to recover from the physical and emotional trauma, Alex is by her side. The Fab Five rally around her and Alex, offering help and support. Can the young couple get back to the plans they made for a life together or is Chelsea too emotionally damaged after the attack to even consider it?

Anne’s Review:
A Rocky Road to Romance is the 5th book in the Fab Five Series which tells us about a group of close friends and their families. At the center of this book is Alex a handsome, caring, modern day prince charming who falls head over heels in love with the shy, sweet, courageous Chelsea.  After a three year relationship with her boyfriend Dante, he turns physically abusive.  Alex tries to convince Chelsea to leave Dante but she fears what the repercussions would be for Alex and his family.  With the help of Alex and the Fab Friends will they be able to help Chelsea escape Dante?  Or will they be too late?

Fantastic! I have read all of the Fab Series and this is by far the best one in my opinion.  This book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. You will cry, laugh, swoon, cheer and throw things at the same time. The characters are well developed, very relatable; they draw you in, stay with you and embody what the meaning of true friendship is.  If you are looking for a great contemporary series I highly recommend the Fab Five, you will not be disappointed.  This book can be read as a stand-alone however, it is better to read them in order. Well done Mrs. Kristell and I look forward to the next one.

Satin Sheets Romance - Guest Author - Gerri Brousseau

We are so excited to have you!

Thank you so much for inviting me to slip between the Satin Sheets, and share with your readers today.
Although I’m an author, first and long before I ever wrote the words, “Chapter One,” I was a reader. An avid reader. I read at least one book per week, and sometimes more. I read mostly romance, and I’m particularly drawn to historical romance, but also read many other genres now as well.  Before the advent of the e-reader, I visited my local book store once a month and purchased 4-6 novels, which would be devoured like a luscious dessert.
Often times while wandering among the shelves in Barnes & Noble, I would be attracted to a cover, intrigued by the blurp on the back of the book, and so, I would purchase the book. Most of the time, I enjoyed the novel, but every once in a while I discovered that judging the book by its cover was a mistake. Sometimes I became so disheartened by the book that I would ask myself how the book ever came to be published. Keep in mind that although I had been writing my entire life, at this point in time I had never attempted the task of writing a novel.
When I sat down to write, when I penned the words, “Chapter One,” I had o idea how to write a full length novel, but one thing I did know was that I wanted to write the type of book that I enjoyed reading. I started to think about what annoyed me in the books that I read and did not like. One of the major things was when an author didn’t tie up loose ends. I vowed I would never do that, and I hope that I have kept that promise. I knew I wanted to write a story that would draw my reader into the world of my characters, that would allow my readers to related to the emotions tugging at the heart of my heroine, and that even though I would take my readers through many twists and turns, I would provide them with a happy and satisfying ending. When writing my first novel, I actually made a hand-written list of all the issues I had created for my hero and heroine, and crossed them off the list as I resolved them. By the time I penned my third novel, To Kill a Monarch, I had developed a system of checks and balance, which I hope works.
Regardless of what I’m writing, my goal as an author is to provide an entertaining escape for my readers. As an author, I’m always interested in interacting with readers to find out what they like, what they don’t like, and what they would like to see. I’m always interested, so please share your thoughts with me. Readers always want to know more about authors, so I’m happy to answer any questions (well, almost any questions) that you ask me.
Now, I would like to tell you a little bit about my newest release, To Kill a Monarch.
Whispers in dark allies say Napoleon’s best assassin, The Falcon, has been sent to London to kill the Monarch. The problem – The Falcon’s identity is known only to the French Emperor. Sir Walter Tinsdale’s new partner, Philip Hamilton, arrives to discover their mission is to find the elusive bird of prey before he strikes. But their nemesis is like a phantom and always one step ahead of them. Enter the lovely Miss Charlotte Winston, the object of Sir Tinsdale’s affections, as well as those of Philip Hamilton. Unlikely alliances, deception, murder, and suicide will keep you turning the pages until the identity of The Falcon is finally revealed. With all the seduction and action of a James Bond movie, To Kill a Monarch is like 007 in 1811.
Sound interesting? I sure hope so. Want more? How about an excerpt?
Phillip lifted the lid off the terrine. The rich aroma of the thick beef stew rose with the steam that swirled above the heavy pot. A loaf of bread wrapped in a linen cloth still held the heat of the oven and his stomach growled, reminding him that he had not eaten since breakfast.
“Come, Charlotte. I’m famished. Let us dine. And after we eat, I have another surprise for you.”
“Another surprise?”
“Yes, I have a little gift for you.”
She sauntered toward the table only stopping when she came to stand beside him. “A gift?”
“What is it?”
“It’s a surprise. Now come, let us eat.”
“Will I like it?”
“I hope you will.”
“Tell me what it is.”
“You will have to wait until after dinner to see.”
“Phillip, why do you tease me so?”
“As I believe I have already told you, Madam, you have yet to sample the extent of my teasing. But after dinner I intend to give you a full ration.”
Where can you get this saucy little caper book? It is available in e-book through Soul Mate Publishing (, on Amazon, and at B&N.
